Moving Tips

Moving tips

Do not store food or perishable items.

When storing business files, leave a walkway down the center of your unit to make accessing items easier.

Use furniture covers or moving pads to keep items off the floor of the unit.

Place frequently accessed items toward the front of your unit.

Make sure fragile boxes are placed on top of heavier, less delicate boxes. Be sure not to overpack boxes, as they can get heavy and dangerous.

Label boxes on all sides for easy identification.

Break down large items such as bed frames, tables, and large furniture, and don’t forget to keep all parts together (screws and smaller items) by taping them to the item.

Don’t forget to use valuable space inside drawers and larger appliances, such as stoves and refrigerators, to store small items: towels, linens, toys, etc.

Packing Tips

Packing tips

Consider purchasing storage insurance to protect your belongings in case of unforeseen events.

Before you start packing, create a detailed inventory of the items you plan to store. This will help you determine the size of the storage unit you need and assist in locating items later.

Use sturdy, uniform-sized boxes for easy stacking. Consider investing in plastic bins for added protection against moisture and pests.

Clearly label each box with its contents and destination (e.g., kitchen, bedroom). This makes it easier to find items when you need them.

Invest in high-quality packing materials, including bubble wrap, packing paper, and packing tape. These will help protect fragile items.

If possible, disassemble large furniture items to save space and prevent damage. Keep all screws, nuts, and bolts in a labeled bag or container.

Wrap fragile items individually in bubble wrap or packing paper. Place them in boxes with ample cushioning and label them as “fragile.”

When loading boxes into the storage unit, distribute weight evenly to prevent boxes from crushing each other. Place heavy items at the bottom and lighter ones on top.

Leave aisles between your boxes and furniture to provide easy access to items in the unit. Stack items vertically to maximize space.

Cover furniture with dust covers or sheets to protect them from dust and scratches.

Place important documents, valuable items, and items you may need soon (e.g., seasonal clothing) toward the front of the storage unit for easy access.
